BRANDON + FORGEBOT / SEPTEMBER 24 WORK
Unity Terrain: What Improved, What Didn’t
The grass improved. The four-hour overhaul did not reach its target. These pictures show the difference.
Improved
Less grass striping; smaller environment-only project.
Delivered
Retained Unity package; clean-import checks reported.
Unfinished
Visual faults, FPS counter, measured 90 FPS.
The Clear Win: Grass Texture
Original thread attachment. Color and normal textures changed; the dirt’s stretching remained.
Left: actual captures from the retained compatibility scene. Right: generated appearance targets, not implemented results. Three new targets follow these frames; the berm uses an older, different-angle reference.
01 Pond Outlook
Black/neon foliage; flat-looking water. Repair tree materials, then reflections and shoreline shading.
02 Field Junction
Stretched dirt dominates the view. Correct terrain mapping before making new textures.
03 Grassy Berm
Featureless dark ground and hard material boundaries. Restore terrain layers; confirm what the dark surface should be.
Berm target generation failed. This older reference shows the look—not matching geometry or framing.
04 Building Approach
Dark foreground; unnatural bright edges. Restore ground materials, then tune daylight and contact shadows.
RECOMMENDED NEXT MOVE
Fix Rendering Before Adding Polish
Ground mapping → tree materials → lighting and water → measured performance.
Start with one corrected dirt material and one corrected tree. Keep the cameras fixed. Check all four views before accepting another version.
The later compatibility scene looks worse than the earlier grass proof. Its code substitutes generic materials for specialized terrain shaders: a likely contributor, not an isolated root cause.
Actual captures: September 24, about 3:49 PM HST; 1468 × 880, 64° FOV, 1.7 m study eye height—not verified gameplay height. New concepts use the Codex subscription; exact image-model version unverified. Dark-ground soil treatment is a proposal. No Unity changes were made for this report.
