FORGE ISLAND / VERMEER HDD RODEO / CONCEPT STUDY

Two Drills. One Precision Challenge.

16 named directions for a new outdoor HDD destination. The John Deere Rodeo at Homestead East stays intact.

ForgeFX Simulations

Start with 01 · Bayside Twin Bore. Study a separate inland parcel near the convention district, connected to the Vermeer booth. Site availability, grading and final dimensions still need a current-build survey.

AI-generated previsualizations—not game screenshots, surveyed parcels or engineering layouts. Four rows explore four search areas. Click any concept for its intent. Surface lines indicate underground bore corridors, not vehicle racing lanes.

What Carries Over From the Real Rodeo

Observed in the reference

  • Two crews drilling in parallel lanes; source machines include Vermeer and Ditch Witch.
  • 00:39–01:04: a 200-foot / 60.96 m bore, specified depths and deductions for missing depth.
  • 01:19–01:52: crews adjust their approach to hit the circular exit target accurately.
  • Gravel event grounds, flags, cordons and staff at the target end; awards follow the competition.

Studied publisher captions for the full clip and source storyboard samples spanning setup, lanes, exit and awards. Full-resolution download was blocked (HTTP 403). Exact model numbers and scoring coefficients are not certified.

Proposed for the simulator

  • Two stationary HDD rigs; operators steer underground rather than drive down the lane.
  • Shared ready/start, independent controls, depth checks, target completion, results and reset.
  • A shared scoreboard and subsurface/locator view make the invisible competition visible.
  • Two-human-player proof is required. A scripted rival is not a substitute for head-to-head acceptance.

Precise depths, penalties, timing, control reuse and networking are design decisions to resolve—not established rules from this clip. Detailed requirements and exclusions are in #663.

Where It Could Live on Forge Island

Archived actual Forge Island map with earlier A, B and C search areas

Archived game map, unchanged. Its original A marks Homestead East / the JD district; B marks the Western Inlet; C marks the Southern Lake. These are not newly surveyed Vermeer boundaries. Later buildings and reservations must be checked against the current scene.

Four separate geographic studies

01–04 · Bayside Inland: preferred visitor connection to the convention booth. Find a separate inland pad; the existing 52 × 44 m building clearing is too short to assume it holds a 60.96 m bore plus safety zones.

05–08 · Western Inlet Upland: dramatic waterfront identity, but a narrow landform. Preserve a dry-land buffer and do not consume the Bayside building reservation.

09–12 · Southern Lake Terrace: a quieter training destination with woodland separation. Check relief, lake buffers and clearing before committing.

13–16 · South Bridge Inland: strong arrival identity near the southern approach. Keep the bridge and main road open; the event needs its own off-road access spur.

Study an initial 90 × 40 m envelope; this is a planning assumption, not verified fit. Measure cut/fill, access, lane clearances and overlap before selecting coordinates.

Keep the existing John Deere arena

Actual existing John Deere Rodeo game capture

Actual #619 game capture. Reuse its readable arrival loop, spectator separation, modest-grading discipline and capture infrastructure—not its location, excavator tasks or greybox finish. Vermeer's indoor Bayside booth remains separate work in #661.
